Provincial Championships 2017 - Weekend #1

2016-08-20

Valley reps started the provincial championships winning bronze in the first weekend.

Representatives from the VDSA got off to a great start during the first weekend of SNS Provincial Championships bringing home both silver and bronze medals.
At the Senior B Women's championship hosted out of New Minas, East Kings McGill's took a tough loss losing 2-1 to Dunbrack Storm in the championship game with the winning goal being scored in the final minute of the game. The two goals in the final were the only two the team gave up the whole weekend as Jenna Reid had an outstanding tournament in goal. In round-robin play McGill's defeated EK Rebels (2-0), Scotia Toros (2-0) and defending champions North Nova (1-0).

Kings West LOU took the opposite route in winning the bronze. Down 3-1 with ten minutes to go, KW LOU tied up the match and then scored in overtime to win 4-3. In round-robin play they had defeated Chester (7-3) and Dartmouth Storm (6-1) before falling 3-1 to Dunbrack.

A late fill-in, Valley's third representative, East Kings Rebels came out on the short end of scores to McGill's (2-0), North Nova (5-0) and Scotia (3-0).

At the U-18 Boys Tier 1 championships in Halifax, Valley United entered in 4th place and put together a tremendous effort before falling to undefeated Halifax City 2-1 in their semi-final match-up.

Valley United's senior women entered the premiership women's championships (Page system) in second place but exited quickly, losing 3-0 to Dunbrack and 1-0 to Halifax County.

Next weekend's championships will see U-14/16 Tier1,  U-18 Tier 2  and Senior B Men's take place. The Valley will be hosting the U-18 girls event out of the L&R fields in New Minas.
