Week-end #3 at the Provincials saw two more sets of medals added to the Valley coffers, both courtesy of Valley United U-12 teams.
At the U-12A provincial championships in Sydney the VU girls fell 3-1 to Halifax County in the final but brought home silver medals as a result. The team opened with a 3-1 victory over Bedford, drew 1-1 with Halifax City and then blanked XFC 6-0 in their final round-robin game to advance to the championship game.
In boys action the VU boys brought home bronze. They lost 2-1 to Dartmouth in their opener then rebounded to defeat Cape Breton 7-3 before falling 4-0 to Halifax County. A tiebreaking formula advanced them to the bronze medal game where they topped Scotia 2-1.
At the U-16 Tier 2 girls tournament in Dartmouth East Kings Invisalign tied Cole Harbour 1-1 in their opener, lost 6-1 to Scotia then defeated Halifax County 1-0 in their last game. They did not advance to the medal games.
New Minas hosted the U-16 Tier 2 boys championships which saw the Valley represented by both West Hants and Bridgetown. West Hants opened with a 11-1 thrashing of Strait before falling to CC Riders (2-0) and Bedford (6-2). Bridgetown sandwiched a 3-2 win over Cole Harbour between losses to Halifax City (5-0) and Upper County (6-1). Neither team advanced to the medal games.
Next weekend will see the U-12B and U-14B championships take place. Valley will host the U-14 girls and will be represented by Somerset and West Hants. Bridgetown will travel to New Glasgow for the U-14 boys event. The U-12 girls event will be in Chester where East Kings will be the VDSA representative. Kingston-Greenwood will be the U-12 boys Valley rep in Dartmouth.
